  7.     New York City wine merchant William Sokolin likes to show
  8. off. So last week he brought a bottle of 1787 Chateau Margaux,
  9. which he valued at more than $500,000 and which may have been
  10. owned by Thomas Jefferson, to exhibit at a wine-tasting party
  11. at the posh Four Seasons restaurant. Sokolin did not intend to
  12. hit the bottle -- but he did, against a serving table. Cradling
  13. the bottle tightly against his hip, Sokolin suddenly felt the
  14. liquid asset dribbling down his leg. "When the bottle was
  15. shattered," he explained afterward, "I was shattered."
