- New York City wine merchant William Sokolin likes to show
- off. So last week he brought a bottle of 1787 Chateau Margaux,
- which he valued at more than $500,000 and which may have been
- owned by Thomas Jefferson, to exhibit at a wine-tasting party
- at the posh Four Seasons restaurant. Sokolin did not intend to
- hit the bottle -- but he did, against a serving table. Cradling
- the bottle tightly against his hip, Sokolin suddenly felt the
- liquid asset dribbling down his leg. "When the bottle was
- shattered," he explained afterward, "I was shattered."
